Echadi (Caress) In the musical time and space, from the songs of Queen Elizabeth’s era, the antique arias of the 17th century to Theodorakis’ Small Cyclades and Hadjidakis’ Big Pink, two distinguished musicians have decided to take us away, matching the perfection of the human voice with the smoothness of the sound of a classical guitar.
The mezzo-soprano Helen Voudouraki and the guitarist Spyros Kavalieratos gave the title Echadi (etymology of word caress, meaning soft sound, little song), in the evening event to be held in the new, wonderful performance venue on Level B of Linto Organization, above Klimax and across the 1st Ancient Theatre of Larissa on Monday, February 2, at 9:00pm.
Helen Voudouraki was born in Athens. In 1999 she was awarded the Singing Diploma with Honors and First Prize (George Zervanos class) from the Modern Conservatory of Athens. Since 2004 she has been a member of the National Opera Studio in England, in which, as a scholar of the Covent Garden Friends, she has studied key roles of the lyric repertoire.
Under the direction of Helmut Rolling she has sang arias from Operation in B minor, cantatas and Matthew Passions of GA of Bach, at the Athens Concert Hall as part of the seminars conducted in collaboration with the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, from which she won scholarship twice.
She has portrayed the role of Cornelia in Julius Caesar (Handel) in Robert Carson’s Workshop at the National Opera, in cooperation with the British Institute. She has participated in master classes of Guina Dimitrova in Athens, with Robert Lloyd in Covent Garden and with Kiri te Kanaoua in Tuscany as a member of the Accademia Georg Solti (scholarship by the Nando Peretti Foundation).
She has collaborated as a soloist with the Opera Chamber of Athens, the Athens Concert Hall (The dwarf, Tsemlinski, Don Carlo, Verdi, The Woman without a Shadow, R. Strauss), the National Opera (Norma, Bellini, The Tsar’s fiance, Rimsky -Korsakof, Marathon-Salamis, Karrer), the Central Orchestra of Athens (Chamathen, Ch. Pittas), in London (Requiem, Mozart and Stampat Matera, Pergolesi), with the Opera Festival of Ancient Corinth on Monteverdi’s play Ulysses’s return home, as well as concerts of Greek and Cypriot composers.
She participated in Vangelis Papathanasiou’s Mythodia as an understudy for Jessie Norman. Since 1998 she has been a permanent associate of the National Opera Choir. In November 2005 she made her debut in Rossini's Cinderella, in the leading role at the Glyndebourne Opera Tour in London under the direction of Edward Gardner.
Spyros Kavallieratos was born in 1974 and grew up in Drapetsona. Since 1999 he has settled in Larissa. He holds a guitarist diploma and works as a contract professor at the Municipal Conservatory of Larissa and at several Music Schools of Thessaly. He has participated in hundreds of cultural events, mainly in Thessaly, and the rest of Greece and has worked closely with the Thessaly Theatre, the V.Tsitsani Museum in Trikala and many other cultural institutions.
